The Foundation is committed to helping solve some of the most troubling women and children’s global health and education issues. It is also involved in humanitarian and disaster relief initiatives.

Famine Relief and Sustainable Communities:

The Semnani Foundation has been effective in working with the Catholic Relief Agency and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) in extending humanitarian efforts worldwide. These efforts have included donations to the Afghan Relief, Famine Relief efforts (UNICEF) in Swaziland, construction of water wells in Southern Africa, and Famine Relief efforts in Ethiopia and Niger as well as projects in Indonesia, Romania and India.

Disaster Relief:

The Semnani Foundation has supported disaster relief operations following the Bam Earthquake in Iran, the Indonesian Tsunami, the Pakistan flooding and more recently the Japanese earthquake, Tsunami, and nuclear crisis.

Measles Initiative:

The Foundation has also worked with the Measles Initiative partners the American Red Cross, WHO, UNICEF, the United Nations Foundation, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in helping to meet their goals of eradicating measles on the African continent. Specifically, the Foundation has generously donated to the Measles Initiative, which is a long-term commitment to control measles deaths in Africa by vaccinating 200 million children through both mass and follow-up campaigns in up to 36 Sub-Saharan African countries by 2006. Newsweek reported in March of 2005, that as of early 2005, the Initiative had vaccinated 150 million children in 33 African countries, saving more than 1,200,000 lives over five years. It has been so efficient that the Initiative is ahead of schedule, under budget and is exceeding its targets. The Semnani Foundation was specifically cited in the article along with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Norwegian Aid, Japanese International Agency for Cooperation (JICA), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, ExxonMobil, Starwood, and others, as a “significant contributor” to the Measles Initiative. In 2005, the Semnani Foundation was awarded the Circle of Humanitarians award from the Red Cross in appreciation for their generous annual giving and support of Red Cross Humanitarian efforts throughout the world.

Wheelchair Initiative:

Through the Wheelchair Foundation, the Semnani Foundation was able to donate numerous wheelchairs to hospitals throughout Iran and Syria. The Foundation is also directly involved in building schools and medical clinics in Iran.
